Precipitation response to aerosol–radiation and aerosol–cloud interactions in regional climate simulations over Europe

چکیده

Abstract. The effect of aerosols on regional climate simulations presents large uncertainties due to their complex and non-linear interactions with a wide variety factors, including aerosol–radiation (ARI) aerosol–cloud (ACI) interactions. These are strongly conditioned by the meteorological situation type aerosol, but, despite increase, only limited number studies have covered this topic from climatic perspective. This contribution thus aims quantify impacts precipitation inclusion ARI ACI processes in driven ERA20C reanalysis. Evaluation and future projections of temperature, precipitation and wind extremes over Europe in an ensemble of regional climate simulations

Temperature, precipitation and wind extremes over Europe are examined in an ensemble of RCA3 regional climate model simulations driven by six different global climate models (ECHAM5, CCSM3, HadCM3, CNRM, BCM and IPSL) under the SRES A1B emission scenario. The extremes are expressed in terms of the 20-yr return values of annual temperature and wind extremes and seasonal precipitation extremes. T...

Regional atmospheric circulation over Europe during the Last Glacial Maximum and its links to precipitation

The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) exhibits different large-scale atmospheric conditions compared to present-day climate due to altered boundary conditions. The regional atmospheric circulation and associated precipitation patterns over Europe are characterized for the first timewith a weather typing approach (circulation weather types, CWT) for LGM paleoclimate simulations. The CWT approach is app...

Reliability of regional and global climate models to simulate precipitation extremes over India

Extreme precipitation events over India have resulted in loss of human lives and damaged infrastructures, food crops, and lifelines. The inability of climate models to credibly project precipitation extremes in India has not been helpful to longer-term hazards resilience policy. However, there have been claims that finer-resolution and regional climate models may improve projections. The claims...

Project to Intercompare Regional Climate Simulations (pircs): Preliminary Analyses of Precipitation Processes

Potential impacts of climate change on agriculture, water resources, human health, and ecosystems are tied to climates of regions (e.g., provinces, counties or states) rather than to changes in broad continental or global averages. It is therefore imperative to understand and, ideally, to predict how global climate change is manifested at these regional scales. Using GCM output to drive limited...

Evaluation of the mean and extreme precipitation regimes from the ENSEMBLES regional climate multimodel simulations over Spain

[1] A state‐of‐the‐art ensemble of regional climate model (RCM) simulations provided by the European Union–funded project ENSEMBLES is used to test the ability of RCMs to reproduce the mean and extreme precipitation regimes over Spain. To this aim, ERA‐40– driven simulations at 25 km resolution are compared with the 20 km daily precipitation grid Spain02, considering the period 1960–2000. This ...
